Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/VJIBAEB/28292 Message Board Post: William L. ‘Bill’ Smith March 28, 1934 - April 26, 2006 William L. “Bill” Smith, 72, Galveston, passed away 1:50 p.m. Wednesday, April 26, 2006, at St. Joseph Hospital in Kokomo. Born March 28, 1934, in Kokomo, he was a son of Charles A. and Minnie L. (Burns) Smith. On Feb. 7, 1958, in Tokyo, Japan, he married Toshiko Y. (Yamaoka) Smith, who preceded him in death Jan. 16, 2006. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier after 21 years of service. He was a very hard worker and made sure he always got the job done ahead of time. He served in the Navy during the Korean and Vietnam wars. He attained the rank of chief petty officer. He was a member of the Walton Masonic Lodge #423 F&AM, VFW in Kokomo and the American Legion in Galveston. He enjoyed sports, especially golf and bowling. He loved his grandkids dearly and spoiled all of them. He also had a passion for yard work, he always kept his lawn very neat. Survivors include a son, Thomas L. and wife Angie Smith, Rochester; grandchildren, Cory, Leighnee and Kaelee Smith; great-grandchildren, William Fisher and Aidan Richey; a brother, Robert and Becky Smith, Galveston; special niece and nephew, Brenda and Mike Fross, Galveston, and Melissa and Adam Fross, Galveston; and many other nieces of nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a granddaughter, Abby; a brother, Chuck; and two sisters, Lil Fording and Rosie Smith. Graveside services with military rites are 1 p.m. Saturday in Galveston Cemetery, with Pastor John Hrynk officiating. Burial will follow. Calling is 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Murray-Weaver Funeral Home, 401 S. California St., Galveston. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
