This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Smith Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/VJIBAEB/27745.1 Message Board Post: Cecilie, Thank you for the great work you are doing with the Northeastern Smiths DNA Project. Ed has given me agreat lead tying my Joseph Smith family to Andrew Smith of Bristol County, MA. I also happen to be a Henry Smith (1619-1687) descendant, so I know a little about that line. You may want to contact Alexander R. Smith, who has a Smith database here on rootsweb. Database = axsmith3 If I read his chart correctly he claims to be a descendant of Henry Smith (1619-1687) , direct male line, and he has the Smith surname. His email is given as axsmith4@att.net I do not know Alexander, but I think his participation in the DNA project would be of great benefit to many who are trying to trace their Smith lines.
Thank you for this information and taking the time to give it to me. I will follow up on it. Where on the Internet (and how) can I look at any SMITH DNA test results? I am researching a difficult SMITH family in Massachusetts in the 1700s. Thank you! -- Adele (not Smith for a long, long time)
I am writing to let you know how your suggestion turned out. Thank you so very, very much for suggesting that I contact Alexander R. Smith. He agreed to participate in the Northeastern Smiths DNA Project at my expense. Today I learned that his results match 23/25 with my cousin Bill's results, the only participant who is even close to Bill's results. I feel certain that Alex's line is the right one. Even if I never prove it with the paper documentation, I will feel that I know which general family my Smiths come from. So, thank you again for your email in February. I don't know if I could have found another Smith of that line to participate without your help. And since you're a Henry Smith descendant, also, perhaps we are distant cousins.
