    2. Did you ever hear of a Tilford C. Smith? He is one I am having difficulty locating. It seems he dodged several census', I did find him on 2 maybe 3. He was in TN and in KY at the time. My family think he is buried at edge of Southern western KY or the tip edge of TN near there. Let me know if you run across him, he is a large piece of my puzzle. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/VJIBAEB/28303 Message Board Post: Charles SMITH was born 1760 in Virginia, and served in the Revolutionary War as a trumpeter with the 2nd VA Regiment. In 1794, he married Lavisa KEESEE, daughter of George Faris KEESEE and Agnes TERRY, herself daughter of Champness TERRY. They moved from Virginia to South Carolina, and then to Tennesee. In an 1839 court case, 'Levisey Smith vs. Charles Smith' after 46 years of marriage and eight children (of whom five were still living). Lavisa alleged that Charles had abandoned her, and that he was planning to abscomb to Arkansas with several slaves her father had willed to her. Charles answered that he had planned to live his life with her, but that Lavisa's manner had changed towards him due to reasons too painful to reveal in the court document, and she had chosen to sever ties with him. Evidently, Lavisa and Charles did not reconcile. Charles moved to Missouri with one of their sons, Champ SMITH, and died there in 1850. Here is the abstract of Lavisa's will: Lavisa Smith will. 2 June 1843. Heirs: son William B. Smith; daughters Agnes Garney and Polly Hudson. Witness: John Davis. Wilson Co. Wills & Inventories, 1843-1848, pg. 228. Of Charles and Lavisa's eight children, I know the identities of five: 1. William B. SMITH, fl. 1843 2. Mary "Polly" SMITH, m. Richard Ward HUDSON, d. between 1843-1850 3. Agnes SMITH, m. _____ Garney, fl. 1843 4. Champness "Champ" SMITH, d. after 1860 in Miller co. MO 5. George SMITH, d. 1835 Of the known children, most seem to have been named after members of their mother's family. Agnes SMITH was probably named after either her grandmother or her aunt Agnes Keesee Lyon. George SMITH was probably named after his grandfather or his uncle George Faris Keesee, Jr. Champ SMITH was probably named for either his great-grandfather or his uncle Champness Keesee. Charles SMITH's family is unknown; could Lavisa's sister Patience Keesee Smith have been married to a brother or a cousin of his? If anyone has any connections to this SMITH family, I'd love to get in touch with them. ==== SMITH Mailing List ==== If you wish to unsubscribe from the Smith list, send only the word UNSUBSCRIBE to SMITH-l-request@rootsweb.com or if you are on the Digest List to SMITH-d-request@rootsweb.com -------------------------------------------------------------------- mail2web - Check your email from the web at http://mail2web.com/ .
