Joseph Eugene Smith (b. 3/10/1874 d. 11/16/1946) was married to Mary (Mollie) Elizabeth Hickman on 7-2-1897 in Warren, Arkansas. His father was Cephas Smith, who seemed to bounce around from Louisiana to South Arkansas. From what I gather from census records, etc, he had several wives. I believe Joseph's mother was Ellen Beasley (1846-1899). I cannot locate any other confirmed information on Cephas. I hope someone can help me solve the mystery of "Who is Cephas Smith and where did he come from" Renee

I am writing to let you know how your suggestion turned out. Thank you so very, very much for suggesting that I contact Alexander R. Smith. He agreed to participate in the Northeastern Smiths DNA Project at my expense. Today I learned that his results match 23/25 with my cousin Bill's results, the only participant who is even close to Bill's results. I feel certain that Alex's line is the right one. Even if I never prove it with the paper documentation, I will feel that I know which general family my Smiths come from. So, thank you again for your email in February. I don't know if I could have found another Smith of that line to participate without your help. And since you're a Henry Smith descendant, also, perhaps we are distant cousins.
