He is Andrew J. Smith born abt 1823 in Kentucky or Illinois, parents unknown. I do know that he lived in Carroll/Boone County, Arkansas from around 1845 to roughly 1902 and then disappears, have not found any trace of him after that. His wife Hesebeth Jane Crain and daughter Ruthey M. Smith are found in 1910 census for Bryan County, Oklahoma living in Andrew's son Thomas' house in Bryan county. I have pretty much traced everyone from Thomas to present day but Andrew remains a mystery. Jane Crain and ancestors, I have traced a long way back . Thomas' death certificate says his dad "AJ" was born in Illinois but all the census I have found on him says Kentucky except one. Either way I have had absolutely no luck in finding AJ.

This James Smith died at a time when his death would normally have been reported in a local newspaper. Have you contacted a near library to learn what newspapers would have been published then? There are many newspaper archives across the country, from which the appropriate microfilms can be ordered. And, for the same reason, his death should have been recorded at least at the county level. -----Original Message----- From: Thomas Smith [mailto:smithy@grics.net] Sent: May 25, 2006 4:22 PM To: SMITH-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [SMITH] James Smith 1920 Marion Co.
