See if anything matches what you know... both Helen and I are interested in the possible Greenslit connection.... there are many Greenslits in Readsboro and Bennington, VT.... Helen wrote: I just stumbled across a short bio on the Tri-Counties (Tioga Co., PA) website. Biography for H. E. Smith H. E. Smith was born Nov 4, 1811, in Sidney, Delaware Co., NY. His father was Samuel Smith, born in Bennington, VT. Samuel Smith served in the Rev War and witnessed the Battle of Bennington. He married Lucy Greenslit. They moved to Sidney, Delaware Co., NY, where Samuel Smith died. There's more on H. E. Smith coming to settle in Tioga Co. PA. I don't know what to make of this bio. Nothing more is said about his mother Lucy Greenslit. But what it said about his father being born in Bennington, serving in the Rev. there, perked me up. This could mean that Samuel Smith met and married Lucy Greenslit there, which could mean she could have been born there, raised there. From the wording, it sounds like AFTER their marriage, they moved to Sidney, Delaware Co., NY. The 1811 birth of their son H. E. Smith has to mean Lucy was at least born prior to 1791 -- and perhaps earlier since Samuel Smith served in the Am Rev. and Battle of Bennington. If he was 20 years old in 1776, Lucy could have been born about the same time (c. 1756) or she could have been much younger. IF Lucy was, say 35, in 1811 when she had their son H. E. Smith, that would place Lucy's birth c. 1776. She could be a DAUGHTER of James Greenslit of Bennington. I don't recall running into any Lucy Greenslit of Bennington. I wonder if it would be worth researching this Samuel Smith in Sidney, Delaware Co., NY, to see if more can be found out about his marriage to a Lucy Greenslit and what his wife's age was on the 1810 census. As mother of H. E. Smith born 1811, she would be alive in 1810.

We have death records, but they don't begin until 1912. Their names were Robert Avery Rainey and Mary Bell Smith. Is it possible for you to do a lookup on this. It would be 1925 plus or minus 3. My email address is brainey57@mail2king.com
Nope haven't found her so far in 1910. Her kids: Annie Smith b. Sept. 1865 d. ? married Thomas M. Whiteside Richard Smith b. 7-4-1873 possibly in Knox Co., Tn d. 2-18-1929 in Sweetwater, Monroe Co. TN.. md. 1st Ada Brock in 1893 Monroe Co., md. 2nd to Maude Bazell in 1900 Monroe Co., Tn Elizabeth Smith b. March 1875 d. ? md. Robert Moore abt. 7-12-1894 in Monroe Co., Tn.. ended up divorcing William Smith b. Feb. 1876 md. abt. 1896 to Alice Unknown last name. Bettie Smith b. 1866-1872 ( the 1900 census is really hard to read ) so I am guessing ... I found a record sometime back for a Belle Smith Burns b. 1883 in Knox Co., Tn d. 1920 in Monroe Co., Tn that had her parents listed as Richard Smith and Jane Bearden... I couldn't find any proof that this is my Jane Smith.. if it is.. then James Smith went by his middle name.. cause we all know him as just James.... so maybe his full name.. Richard James Smith.. again a guess. Tenn Okay, list her children for me and who they married. I will check all obits here and see if on a death record one of her children listed the maiden name of his/her mother. That will be a start. I will need names and year of birth if you know that. You didn't mention, did you found her in 1910? ag > > From: "Lloyd & Frances Pikok" <fpikok@barrow.com> > Date: 2006/05/30 Tue PM 12:01:21 EDT > To: SMITH-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: RE: RE: [SMITH] Re: Smith from E.
