    1. Ned Henry Smith (Noyes), son of Martha Ella Clough
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/VJIBAEB/28034 Message Board Post: Ned Henry was b. 12 Dec 1872 Haverhill, Grafton Co., NH, died 29 Dec 1949; married Ruth Ann Caswell on 31 Aug 1896. He is enumerated 1880 Haverhill, Grafton Co., NH census as Henry Smith, age 7, in home of mother, Martha, and step-father, Edmund Noyes. Ned legally changed his name from Smith to Noyes in 1893. His mother is definitely Martha Ella Clough. Diaries kept by Ned dated 1894 (missing years 1895-1901), and 1902 until his death in 1949 prove his mother. No mention is ever made of his father or the fact that he changed his name from Smith to Noyes. The record for the name change was found after finding that he was listed as Henry Smith in the 1880 census. Any information pertaining to the Smith father of Ned Henry would be most appreciated.

    2. Lee Anne Center
    3. I hope someone on the list is able to help you. However, if no one is able to, you should consider ordering his death certificate, since you know his death date. Death certificates from that time period would likely have his parents' names. The SSDI index that Ancestry.com has does not list him, but that does not mean he isn't on the SSDI. Ancestry's database just may not have him listed yet. Lee Anne

Good Luck There are many of us here that will do look ups. Messages that do not give dates or places are impossible to help. For example there are over 50,000 Samuel Smiths on the U.S. census records. There are 873 in the North Carolina Birth Index, over 2400 in WWI draft registration cards. I would not know where to begin looking for Samuel Clayton Smith. Please be as specific as possible, there are a lot of Smiths out there. I find old named photos in Antique Stores, Flea Markets, and Ebay and then i scan them and post them to the Surname page or the County page that the photo was taken in. That way descendants or cousins will hopefully find them. Smith Daughter of R. M. Smith & Rose M. Smith living in Yankton, Yankton, DT born <1872> New York So my guess she could be one of these. Hope this helps, Don Howell
