Presumably they are related to the Barnard Castle ones quite closely, Romaldkirk isn't a long way from Barnard Castle. I haven't got that far back with my Heslops, mid 18th century that's all. I think, perhaps, the next generation back is Thomas Heslop and Sarah Wharton but I can't establish a link.

They first appear in the 1870 Census for the Town of Ashland, with one son, EUGENE SMITH, who was born by Conrad's first wife, ARCENA HAGER around 1861. Conrad and Sarah then had two children, ANN SMITH, born 13 Feb 1874, who married WILLIAM HUDSON and CLAUD D. SMITH (or Claude), born 3 Feb 1871. CONRAD SMITH served in the Civil War with Company M of the 2nd Indiana Cavalry. It was only by chance that I found this family in Newaygo County and I have been searching for them for thirty years. I am related to CONRAD SMITH through his sister, who was my gg grandmother. I have lots of info to share.

Don Martin officiating. Burial will be in the Little Creek Cemetery. Mrs. Kelley died Sunday night at St. John's Regional Health Center after a long illness. Mrs. Kelley was a longtime resident of the Hartville area. She and her late husband, Arley, owned the Kelley Country Store north of Hartville for several years. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Pearman, of Springfield, and Mrs. Cleta Fritz, of Hartville; one son, Osa Kelley, of Merino, Colo.; one brother, John Smith, of Ava; one sister, Loulla Yocham, of Broussard, La.; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.
