    1. SMITH in Owen Co KY 1830s to now (possibly)
    2. I am researching my SMITH ancestors in Owen Co KY. Can anyone tell me who was the patriarch of this family? Most of what I know so far is from census records, and I'm looking for living descendants who might shed more light on this ancestral line of mine. (Mr.) Smith, possibly born VA or KY and died before the 1840 census. His wife was AGNES – b. VA or KY ca 1800, died between 1850-1860, probably Owen Co KY. Agnes was head of household in 1840 and 1850 census in Owen County. The 1861 Owen County Order Book gave me the names of their children. Their children, all born KY per census records (1850 is the only census that lists pob as VA and I think this is an error): Susan C. Smith (b. ca 1819) m. James S. Schooler before 1850 census Mary Ann (Polly) Smith (b. ca 1820) m. Thomas Dempsey 16 Mar 1839 in Owen Co KY Joshua T. Smith (b. ca 1820-1824) m. Rhoda Ellen (Baldwin) Sparks 22 Oct 1851 in Gallatin Co KY Eleanore (Elinor, Elnora et al) Malinda Smith (b. ca 1823) m. a Reastor (spelling?) before 1860 * George W. Smith m. Mildred (see more below) James R. Smith (b. ca 1827) Alfred B. Smith (b. ca 1829) Margaret Smith (b. ca 1833) Nancy Jane Smith (b. ca 1834) John W. Smith (b. 1835-1838) * Elizabeth E. Smith (b. 1839-1840) m. Nathaniel (Nat) Hardin (see more below) Dates of birth are best guesses, based largely on census records. * George Smith m. Mildred/Milly and they settled in Lusby(s) Mill, Owen Co KY, where they raised a very large family. Children: Sarah, Mary, John, Susan, Nancy A, Calvin Breckenridge, Allice Adaline, Elisha, Margaret (who married John TURNER and lived in Lusbys Mill). Children of John and Margaret Turner were Stella, Smith, Earnest, Bessie, John A, and at least 2 more children (all born betw 1890 and 1910). * Elizabeth E. Smith m. Nat HARDIN about 1860 in Owen Co KY and they lived in Lockport KY. Children were Lucy, John Alfred, Edmond/Edward, Annie, Catherine. Agnes (maiden name unknown) Smith and her husband were my 3rd great-grandparents. If anybody has information about this family, I'd appreciate hearing from you. Thanks very much. Judy Davison

Surnames: Smith, Cadzow Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/VJIBAEB/23248.1 Message Board Post: Hello! William Smith and Elizabeth Cadzow married on 21 Oct 1825 in Carluke, Lanarkshire. Their children were Agnes (1827), John (1829), Andrew (1832), Marion (1834), James (1836), James (1838), Janet (1843) and William (1846). Andrew emigrated to Australia (gold miner), married there (Anne Campbell) and had 10 children, of whom 6 daughters and 2 sons were alive at his death in 1898. Marion married David Brown. Their eldest son emigrated to New Zealand (farm manager). Janet married William Crow. William Smith (elder) died on 6 May 1848. Elizabeth Cadzow subsequently lived with (but probably did not marry), William Lawrie. William Smith junior was still farming at Blythebank in 1901.
