Write to SSA, under FOIA, and request Lucien Smart's SS5 (long form, not computer printout). I think the cost is still $27 -- it will say on their site. The SS5 will be Lucien Smart's application for social security number and it will include where he was born as well as his parent's names. According to MA Death Index, Lucien Smart died in Ayer on 23 Aug 1973 and that he was born in New Hampshire (not MA). After getting SS5, order his birth certificate from the vital records of the county in which he was born. With the SS5 and birth record, check census records, beginning in 1930 and working backwards.
