The Smarts came from that area (Netherton, Dudley, Tipton, ...), back to circa 1800 (or even before). So I guess we are (from 1800-ish) related. This can be seen in Jared's tree, which I expect you have seen: http://www.whittinghams.me.uk/families/smart/Josiah-1857-(Langley-Green).htm I was born in Smethwick in 1946. And still feel a link with the Black country smarts, even though I am only 25% Smart. At the moment, I am trying to track down Henry Smart (b 1827) and Hannah Savage (b 1821).
