This land was bought in 1795 by John Smart. Half of this land which was bought in 1795 was leased in 1797 to John's mother Betty Smart, widow of the late John Smart. On the 10th of Nov 1807 Betty/Betsy/Elisabeth Smart, widow of John hired an attorney. ** This land was sold by John Smart and Susanna - or that is how it looks to me and if you write sloppy Susanna could be confused with Loemma. Found the Tax Lists for 1806/7/8 which showed he sold his land in 1808. He didn't tell his mother that he sold the land right under her. She hired an attorney but have not found what the results were. 8 Oct 1808 #0012148 Register of Deeds for Somerset, ME John Weeks sold land for the sum of three hundred dollars to John Smart of Exeter in the County of Rockingham, NH. It does show the death of Hilton & Samuel Smart both Dec 1811 in St Albans. -------------------------------------- Need to have some other proof, besides land deeds. Hope your research is going better then mine. But did find my other grandparents line came from Ireland and some came over in the 1630's from England.
