Library "John Smart of Exeter. N.H. & Seven Generation" by H. B. Leslie privately published in Bristol, R. I. in 1990. The following info is from that and is all I have but may give you a direction in which to go. Gen 1: 1-1 John Smart b. bef 1600 Norfolkshire, England d. before 1652, Exeter. N.H., married Margaret Scudder b. abt 1600 prob. Norfolkshire, d. aft. 11/1654 Exeter, N.H. page 4 Gen 2: 2-6 Robert Smart b. abt. 1625 Norfolkshire, England, d. 1703, Exeter, N.H. married 1st prob. Anna unk., 2nd prob. Rebecca Hilton, d/o Capt. William & Rebecca (Simmons) Hilton. page 4 Gen 3: 3-3 Robert Smart b. 1646 Exeter, N.H. d. bef. 7/1718 married 9/25/1674 Eleanor Pratley, 2nd Mary or Elizabeth Burley (also spelled Burleigh). She was most likely mother of 4-14 Joseph following Biblical custom of Jacob who so named 1st son of the 2nd wife. page 5 Gen 4: 4-14 Joseph Smart b. 12/8/1700 Exeter, N.H. d. 1754 Newmarket, N.H. married 1st Mary Marston b. 12/5/1710 No, Hampton, N.H. 2nd Abigail unk. page 7 Gen 5: 5-27 Caleb Smart b. abt 1730 d. bet. 3/1787 & 6/1789 Hopkinton, N.H. married bef. 1742 Rebecca Durrell d/o Zebulon Durrell. Caleb was of newmarket, N.H in 1759, of Goshen, Croydon & Hopkinton, N.H. He was a Revolutionary War Soldier. "According to Dr. F. W. Shepard, Professor of History at Univ. of Chicago, Ill., while no certain link to 4-14 Joseph has been found; "As it would be natural to name a son Caleb Smart after the wife's father. and as the name Joseph appears in several generations of the descendants of Caleb Smart of Hopkinton, N.H. and is not commonly used in any other line investigated, the conclusion is reached (Aug 1 1925) that Caleb Smart of Newmarket, who moved to Hopkinton before the american Revolutiuon and who, probably, was born about 1730, was the son of Joseph and Mary (Marston) Smart."" page 10 (This 5th generation is were we break off. Q. d. 5/23/1854 Walpole, of Hopkinton, N.H. in 1804 married 11/28/1799 to Betsy Colby d/o Anthony & Sarah Colby of Hopkinton, N.H. and she d. 11/19/1825 Goshen, N.H. page 17 Gen 7: 7-73 Samuel Smart b. 3/1801 Hopkinton, N.H. d. 9/25/1875 Goshen, N.H. married 1st Sarah Cutts d/o Samuel & Melinda Cutts and she d. 1846, 2nd Betsey Gee b. 1826 Lyme, Ct.
