William Gettys Smart, his brother Philo Whitefield Smart, and Emma's husband - was all enlisted in Co. A, 49 NC Infantry , CSA So we have 3 links to the Civil war - and maybe even more in that same family line. I plan to check the rest of the names once I get back to the Old Tryon Genealogy Society. Philo was killed in the war, but William Gettys Smart named a son after his brother that had died. Thus you will run into two Philo Whitefield Smarts while doing research.
