All Smarts are born in the county of Fife, Scotand b. abt. 1772/1775 William/Margaret (Dingwall) Smart b. 29/Jul/1798 John/Barbara Lyon (Hood) Smart b. abt. 1840 John/Isabella (Reekie)Smart b. 07/Aug/1870 David/Margaret (Smart) Smart b. 07/July/1890 Donald Grant/Lillian (Andrews) Smart I have some pictures of the houses that were lived in and of the people as well. The earliest Smart recorded was in 1066 (in Southfolk England) during the collection of taxation data, for the king (a.k.a. doomsday book). My understanding is that the Smarts travelled along the east coast up into Scotland. As I have hit the wall going backwards my next objective is to go from 1066 up to 1772/75. Looking forward to any information, that anyone has. If you believe that you linage is the same as mine, I may have some information to assist in you search. I have run into the same problem except my Smarts are from Leicestershire. The oldest records are in the 1600s but are in latin and mostly unreadable.
