Born November 13, 1932 to the late Sterling and Gladys Smart. Stanford died unexpectedly of a heart attack on June 7, 2011. Attending Miamisburg High School and working on the family farm, Stan earned as a young adult the Golden Glove boxing title. With his sharp wit, a twinkle in the eye and that infectious smile and laugh, Stanford easily made friends during his life journey. His long and successful career as Studio Production Manager of WHIO-TV spanned 33 years where he received numerous recognitions for his skillful lighting work. As a professional musician with a particular passion for Jazz, Stanford was well known for his tremendous musical ability on both the upright and electric bass. Playing bass with many talented musicians for nearly 60 years, Stanford was part of musical groups Threeo, and with his wife Julie on drums Bobby Wilson's Touch of Class and Smart Set. Stanford had a deep love and appreciation for all antiques and in his retirement enjoyed restoring Economy tractors. He was active in the Miami County Antique Power Association and, with his wife Julie, served for several years as a key leader in the New Carlisle Heritage of Flight Festival. Stanford is survived by his wife Julie; siblings The Rev. Marshall Smart, Buddy Smart, Clarence Smart, Joseph Smart, Mary Harper and Kent Smart; numerous nieces and nephews; and many special friends. He was predeceased by his daughter, Lucinda in 2009, brothers, Sterling Jr. and David Smart, and sister, Thelma Roach. A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 11 at 4PM in the TROSTEL, CHAPMAN, DUNBAR & FRALEY FUNERAL HOME, New Carlisle, Ohio with Reverend Marshall Smart and Reverend Cindee Johnson officiating.
