Most of my info/data comes from my Aunt, Jo Mayer, who passed away in 2003. According to the records I have, a Peter Smart emigrated from England to Rutherford County, Tennessee in 1750 with his brothers, John Smart, Sr. Samuel and maybe Thomas. Sir Peter Smart was born in England. He was barred from royalty when he married a commoner (do not have a name but assumed it was in England). Another story has Peter, his wife and brother John came to America settling in Virginia. Later they moved to Paris, Henry, Tennessee. Unknown if children were born to this union. After the death of his wife Peter married a young girl by the name of Mary Cavitt. (no source for the info) Information from Susan Smart Tanska 1999: Peter Smart was English born and educated for a teacher. He was a soldier in the War of 1812 (Copy of company Muster Roll obtained, Captain Richard Crunk's Co, of Infantry, 2 Reg't West Tennessee Militia.) musterd into service 13 November 1814 to 13 November 1815. He contracted a disease and after being home about two years died in his 31st year at Paris, Tennessee in about 1816. His widow Mary "Polly" Cavitt Smart married Benjamin Chapman and moved to Missouri a few years later. Peter had one brother, John. A John Smart was listed in the 1830 Census in Tennessee (Jackson or Henry County). Peter Smart is my 4great grandfather thru Elisha Walker Smart, John Wesley Smart, Franklin Walker Smart, Mancel Franklin Smart, Jack Wayne Smart (my dad). I'd be interested in any information you have on Peter and any of his ancestors. I've got some of my aunt's research, but unfortunately I think the vast majority of it has been lost. Most of us researching Peter Smart have been stumped as to where he came from (England, Scotland or Ireland) and where he first lived in US (Va, Tn, NY). Thanks for any info you may have.
