My great-grandfather was Rufus Marion Harris (b. 1858 in Alabama d. 1934 in Alabama). I was wondering if you could help me find his parents? I believe that they could be William Washington Harris (b. 1820 in either GA or AL d. 1910 in AL) and Elizabeth Ann Clanahan. However, I have no records to verify this, he is buried with them. Might you have any data on Rufus M.'s parents or on William Washington Harris' parents? I have hit a complete wall here. Thank you very much! Joshua [ [email protected] ] 2. Jimmy Chisholm [doesn't have a computer but is coming on 4/26 ] Hi, I had a Jimmy Chisholm stop bylooking for information on Arthur Harris's dau Sarah Myrick who married a Chisholm and we were looking at the land grants for Arthur Harris, and found a Tax deed for 1799, which list a Arthur Harris Esq. High Sheriff of Montgomery Co. NC. did either one of you know this, I didn't, But which one is he, the Arthur of Henry Harris, the Arthur son of West or the Arthur who married Elizabeth Edwards?? and when I went to google him I came up with this below. I didn't know that this Harris was a Sheriff also?? Lea Sir Arthur Harris was born c. 1530 in the county of Essex, England. He married Dorothy Waldegrave of Smallbridge, who was the daughter of Sir William Waldegrave and Julia Reynsford. It has been established that Sir Arthur Harris liv ed in the villages of Creeksea, Woodham Mortimer, Cold Norton and the City of London. Sir Arthur Harris is credited with building the manor house Creeksea Place in Creeksea, Essex. Sir Arthur was the High Sheriff of Essex in 1589, a Justice of the Peace, and one of the Commissioners appointed in 1577 to enquire into piratical practices along the Essex coast. Sir Arthur Harris died July 7, 1597 and is buried at St. Mary's Church in Burnham-on-Crouch, Essex. Children of Sir Arthur Harris and Dorothy Waldegrave 3. Cynthia McDaniel [ Cynthia McDaniel <[email protected]> ], -I also can't make it this time but I have information on the Morris line, and some information on the following surnames as they connect with the Scarborough line in Montgomery County: LeGrand, Cranford, Ballard. I welcome opportunities to share. Jim Jim
