MANSFIELD, Ohio: Howard S. Armstrong, 97, of Mansfield, died Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at Wedgewood Estates. Born July 30, 1914 in Wilmington, Ohio he was the son of Job and Maggie (Smart) Armstrong. He was a 1932 graduate of Jeffersonville High School and graduated from Bliss College in Columbus. He lived most of his life in Springfield, Ohio having moved to the Mansfield area 12 years ago to be close to his family. He was the owner/operator of Armstrong Instant Print in Springfield and was an honorary life member of the Kiwanis Club in Springfield having 25 years of consecutive attendance. He was also a member of the Ritman Club, Men's Garden Club and High Street Methodist Church in Springfield. A wonderful husband, father and grandfather, he enjoyed working in his flower and vegetable gardens, garage sales, where he always found something unique and following The Ohio State University football and basketball teams. He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Jane (Thomas) Armstrong; a son, James H. Armstrong of Mansfield; four grandchildren, David (Jody) Armstrong of Huron, Amy (Bill) Newdome of Lexington, Lisa (Ron) McGinnis of New Bloomington and Todd (Katrina) Taylor of Columbus; 10 great grandchildren, David, Ava, Mariah, Adam, Rhian, Jillian, Summer, Adam, Megan and Ryan; a son-in-law, Robert L. Taylor of Shelby; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet Taylor; and a brother, Forest Armstrong. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, October 13, 2011 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road, Ontario. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 14, 2011 at the funeral home conducted by Rev. Dave Root. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery.
