    1. Re: [SMART] Smarts in NC
    2. Who were your parents?  Was your father William (born c. 1909) or Everett (born c. 1916)?  I have both in my database as sons of Leehoarse (Lee Horse?) Smart and Nellie Mae Lail.  [Daughters were Bessie, Eller, Virgie, Norella, Clensie--right?]  Leehoarse (spelling?) was the son of William Gettys Smart and Margrett C. Murphy.  William Gettys Smart was the son of Hiram Joseph Smart and Sydney Brandon.  I descend from Hiram Joseph Smart, but from his son Lawson Henderson Smart. I would like to hear more about the family and descendants of Leehoarse.  What is the correct spelling of his name?  I have that he was born on June 19, 1881 and died on May 16, 1966 and was buried in Saint John Baptist Church Cemetery, Burke County, N.C.  The name on the cemetery files that I found was Lee Smart.  I have him in 1900 in Rutherford County census, 1910 with Nellie Mae in Burke County census, and 1920 wiyh her again in Catawba County census. Is this the right family? ----- Original Message ----- From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Sent: Tuesday, August 4, 2009 10:46:41 AM GMT -08:00 US/Canada Pacific Subject: [SMART] Smarts in NC This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Just a few other priorities at the moment. I'm connected to the Smarts through John's wife, Alice Green. She was my g-grandma's (Nancy Green Leffler) 1/2 sister. My other connection is through John & Alice's daughter, Elizabeth, aka Libby. She married my grandma's (Mary Jane Forbes Leffler) uncle, Augustine Palmer. We visited them often (Libby & Uncle Teen) when I was a kid and I just found out a few years ago that she was also blood relation. I really don't have anything on the Smart family other than John & Alice's family, and that's not a whole lot. I have some on the Palmers; but not very much on the Greens. I connected with another gal, Kathy who is also researching this line. Together we've made some progress on finding info on John and Mary's Parents and trying to gather more on their grandparents. Author: Snoopynut1972GA Surnames: Smart, Stephenson, Clark Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.smart/1637/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello ~ I have been researching the SMART family from the Athens/Hocking Counties area for a while now. Just thought I'd check in to see if anyone was around that was part of this line and wanted to swap data to see if we can help one another. Mary Samanthia Smart B:1881 in Haydenville, Hocking, Ohio married Clarence L Stephenson in 1896. These are my 2nd Great Grandparents. Mary's parents are Stimpson Smart B 1843 in Ohio D: 28 Feb 1907 in Athens County, Ohio. Stimpson married Hannah Clark on 22 Dec 1864 in Hocking County. Hannah B 1844 D 1918. Believe Hannah's fathers name is John...but not much to go on to get back another generation. Stimpson's Parents - James Smart born sometime around 1790 -1800 in England, married Ann in before 1828 we believe. I have found two James and Ann Smarts that fit into the timeframe, so trying to locate more info to determine who is really mine. Would love to collaborate with anyone working these lines.
