I wrote down on my records that he was from PA so it must have been from the article I found. to avoid confusion this is the Hezekia born abt 1797ish and married Margaret Hinkson. I'm not referring to andy of the son's of any of the brothers (elijah, john, etc) who also, it seems, were named Hezekiah. He died in St Louis as he moved out that way eventually. but his grave has never been found by anyone. if you would like to share information, I'd be happy to share what I've found, I have several citations from history books that mention him in my collection. John and his brother hezikiah settled in indianapolis and each of the brothers I believe has a son named hezekiah. So there are at least 3 hezekiah's in marion county. John's wife was sarah earls. the hezekiah who married Margaret hinkson, died and was burried in the st louis area. th hezekiah grave that you found would have either been a son of John's or a son of Hezekiah sr. Hezekiah jr lived in close proximity to his father's property. I am not familiar with whre john's family settled, and I don't know the names of his children. I'm going up the tree from Martha Carrie Smart, dau of hezikiah sr and margaret (hinkson) smart. who married Archibald Glenn. I have not done much branching out to siblings' families. As far as I can tell he married Charity Peach in Cambridgeshire in 1903 and they had 2 daughters; Hilda and Ida. In 1911 he married Lillian Swinburn in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. They had a daugher, Lillian Evelyn, in 1912 in Ontario. The a son, Arthur William, and daughter, Dorothy, in St. Paul Minnisota. In 1919, he married Leah Lansdowne, in Waddsworth, Middlesex, England. The war had moved him back. They moved to British Columbia, Canada and had one daughter, Margaret (Peggy) Hannah and a son John Lansdowne. The family then moved to Southern California and 4 more children were born; Robert, Wesley, Elizabeth and Gwendalyn. Arthur eventually moved back to British Columbia and bought an island off the coast of Victoria Island where he lived until 1954. After an accident on the island he was moved to a veterans hospital where he passed away. If you know anything you are willing to share so we can fill in the blanks that would be great. Not necessarily! But, probably not a good place to start unless you have data leading back to England. Hope you had a good Easter and all is well within your family. Best Regards, Eric

I don't know how to unwind the tangle these families are in due to the wonderful guesses published so far. I have found wills good sources if clear as to offspring. But they are limited in scope. I can offer this analysis/reference of Rutherford Smarts: http://www.ancestor-rescue.com/SmartRoots/Analysis.htm I gave up after carving my family out and correcting the published errors in my direct line. There were also no Smart baps there between 1740 and 1812, and the baps of your Wm & Mary Ann on 8 January 1815 were the only ones between 1813 and 1840. There was a smattering of Smart burials in Winchcombe:- Collis SMART widow 19 Aug 1772 65 yrs* Eleanor SMART Winchcomb16 Sep 1859 48 yrs John SMART 26 Jul 1759 Margaret SMART wife of _______ Smart of Winchcombe 27 Dec 1725 William SMART 15 Jan 1768 68 yrs* [*Ages taken from an MI survey, which shows Wm Smart as ' MD' - which presumably stands for 'surgeon' - and Collis as his wife] which suggests that there may have been a Smart family there comprising two generations in the 18th C. However, the 43 year gap between the last 18th C burial in 1772 and your two baps in 1815, plus the absence of Daniels baptism (in the 1780s or 1790s?) suggests that Daniels immediate family were not living in Winchcombe at the time of his birth. Together with the total lack of Smart baptisms there between 1740 and 1814 this would suggest that during the 18th C Daniels family may have lived (mainly) in one or more nearby parishes. So, you could do worse than check adjacent parishes for Daniel's marriage and baptism plus the marriage of his parents. Also, Gloucestershire Archives have a pre 1812 slip index of Gloucestershire marriage licences. And if you go to the following page of their website and search on 'Smart' you will find 27 pages of hits:- http://ww3.gloucestershire.gov.uk/genealogy/Search.aspx including the 1769 will of Wm Smart of Winchcombe 'doctor in physick'.
