I sincerely doubt they were returning to the old country in that time (after/pre war time). I'd rather believe that only the photo was sent and that someone from the US wrote on it, about the people s/he remembered from home. And, considering the language mixture, it could have been someone who came to the US as a young person, about 20 years earlier.
