Doing wildcard searches on the Ellis Island site, I finally located my paternal grandfather, Franc Cemernik. He was born in 1875 in Podgorci. Served 8 years in Austro-Hungarian Empire army, most of which was stationed in Triest. Last residence was listed in immigration records as "Asling", but the closest place I could find was "Assling". Half brother to Josef Kronfieldt, also born in Podgorci. Franc married Theresa Korosic (born in Arnoldstein in 1886) in the U.S. Theresa's family (father Franc Korosic, mother Marija Kudla) moved from Arnoldstein to Stein, Slovenia. I understand Stein was not far from Podgorci. Someone has suggested that Podgorci has been renamed "Kamnik". I would like to find out anything about my grandfathers parents and ancestors. Also, I understand Franc Cemernik was the only living relative of a wealthy aunt who tried to pass her estate (included a mountaintop and castle) on to Franc on her death in 1936. Her executors could not locate Franc in the U.S. Any information provided me on my paternal grandfather and grandmother and their ancestors, will be greatly appreciated and rewarded!
