Author: elfielou Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.eeurope.slovenia.general/6612.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: The Gottscheer Heritage and Genealogy Association (GHGA) is the best site for finding out about Gottscheer ancestors, place names, etc. Gottschee was a German linquistic island that existed in what is now southern Slovenia for over 600 years until 1941 when Hitler sold the area to Italy and resettled the inhabitants Although Gottscheers have been immigrating to America since the late 1800's, many came after the end of World War II. The GHGA was founded in 1992 and we have transcribed the parish marriage records to Excel files. These records are available for purchase by the GHGA. We have also translated and published several books on the history of Gottschee and Gottscheers. Check our website: gottschee.org .
