My gr-grandmother was Julianna Zagar (Julie, Johanna). She married my gr-grandfather Joseph Katz in Kansas City (the Katz name was changed we think from Kac or Kec). She died in 1915 in Wellington, Missouri from what appears to be typhoid - when my grandfather (Tony Katz) was around one year old. Story was that there was several people from the old county that had worked the mines coal mines in this area. Both came to KC, KS from Austria but listed Slovenian as their nationality. I speculate that present day location is somewhere on the Slovenian/Croatian border (Prezid, Trava are a couple of locations). What little I do know about the Zagars are that my grandfather was baptized at St. Bridgets in KC, KS and that his sponsors were John Zagar and Emilia Zagar. John Zagar was Julianna's brother and his occupation was a Taylor. Tony, my grandfather, is now 97 and we are having some problems piecing the Zagar family together...it seems that Joseph's second wife (Sophia Kovac sister of Joe Kovac, Joseph's best friend) burned a trunk that had information about Julianna and the family. The other piece of information I have is that grandpa attended St. John's on Strawberry Hill as did some of the ancestor of those of you who posted. Any help would sure be appreciated.
