I just started doing research on my grandmother known as Rozalia Bugaj born in Tyapesso, Hungary on 2-12-1891 (or 1892). She arrived at Ellis Island in 1907 and settled in Chicago. Guessing that Tyapesso is a small village - just wondered if any Bugaj's are in your family tree. My great-grandfather would have been Stefan Bugaj. Rozalia had a brother Mihaly Bugaj she went to see in Chicago. They were Roman Catholic in the US so assuming they were Catholic in Slovakia/Hungary. If you have any info on the local Churchs or other sources for birth certificates or other info on the family - would be appreciated. Rosanna Juris Hogarty PS My Grandfather was known as Anton Juris (or Jurisz) from I believe Namestovo - but just starting digging around on him. His traveling campanion was (not sure of first name - maybe Johan) Penca. They came to Imperial, Pennsylvania and lived with Penca's brother andwife John and Frances. Penca was age 24 and Josef Redek was 23. Are there any Redek's now living in Novo Mesto. What kind of records are available for family history research. I have no information on the family of Josef Redek. Could this Penca be related to your contact in Slovenia? Thank you for your answer. We have the record for a Franz (Frank) Terkaj born August 23, 1862, in the Dolenvehr area of Slovenia. Frank's brother's name is Matija Terkaj (b. February 15, 1858). Matija is my 2nd great grandfater. We do not have a spouse for Frank but have the parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents for Matija and Frank. Our sources are the property, marriage, death, birth, etc. records at the archives in Lubljana. Specifically, the records came from the St. Peter-Otocec parish which is situated near the city Novo mesto in Dolenjska. I would be thirlled to pick-up the Franz Terkaj side of the family if there is, in fact, a connection. Mike Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. We have been working on our family tree and have found that the Trkay's were formerly the Terkaj's. We have traced out family back to a similar area in Slovenia (with a trip over there for research) and suspect that Mathias may have been one of the brothers of our great-great-etc. grandfather. Have you made any progress with your search? I would be intereste in comparing notes. Thanks, Mike Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I am having a terrible time deciphering the ship manifest. The place they list as their last residence was deciphered as "Cesupe"... but that doesn't look right to me. They reported being Slovenian, and the written place looks like "Cosujna" or something like that. Anyone know how to figure out where they are from? I have no knowledge of the language or how things are pronounced and really need some help! Emigrants were Mathias Bellock and Mary Polajnar Bellock, with their young daughter, Mary. They traveled with Mary Polajnar Bellock's younger sister, Antonya, and were going to Wabash, Indiana, to stay with a sister named Polajnar (either Ivana, or Iwana, or similar). They were on the ship Zeeland and arrived at Ellis Island on Aug 22, 1905, left Antwerp on August 12, 1905. Any info is appreciated!
