I really have no clue as to who is who. I have a mizture of US records. Maybe after I sort through some Slovenian records, I can make sense of it. I am waiting for two society publications that should give some insight. Peter had to have some remaining family members there, in 1888. There is a hometown news article of his travels. Doesn't mention other people by name. His 1912 obit says he was born in Tschnerhanibuhl. The print is hard to read. Haven;t found it on map yet. This is from the Crnomelj parish. There are quite a few Stublers in the Semic marriage records. A further look at the marriage records of Semic show Stubler also in the parish of Metlika (Mottling) and none of the Semic marriage records seem to tie in to Peter Stubler. I do not know if LDS has records from Metlika parish but I believe they are in the archbishop's archives in Ljubljana. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I guess I need to get to an LDS Center. The Peter Stubler you cite fits right in. There were two Stublers in Clarion County, PA, that appear to related somehow-maybe brothers, Peter b: 1816/Austria and George b: 1825/Austria. They even resided together in Oil City, PA, along with Peter C. Stubler b: 1847/Austria, a son. Any idea who he married when he was 58? I've not been able to identify any mothers/wives except Anna Keros. Anna was listed as Peter C. Stubler mother on death his 1912 death certificate. All were Catholic. There is a Peter Stubler listed in the transcribed marriage records of the parish of Crnomelj. He was from Svibnik 5, a widower aged 58 who married in 1874. There are more Stublers in the marriage records of the parish of Semic which is just north of Crnomelj. The marriage records of the parishes of Crnomelj and Semic have been transcribed by the Gottscheer Heritage and Genealogy Association into Excel files. Author: Tina_PS Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.eeurope.slovenia.general/6590.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: The last name Hotra does not exist in modern-day Slovenia. It also doesn't sound Slovene. Based on the fact that Mikita is not a Slovene name, and that he came from a place called Suhá, I sincerely doubt he was Slovenian. There is indeed a place called Suha near Skofja Loka (Bischofslack in German), but it is a name without any inflections, and yours has one. There are several places called Sucha (same pronounciation, alternate spelling) in today's Czech and Slovak republics and Poland, so I suggest you expand your search there also. On the other hand, the last name Hegedus exists in Slobvenia of today, in and near Ljubljana and in and near Murska Sobota. But only 9 people are listed altogeter, on 6 different addresses. Kiozte does not sound Slovenian (again), so maybe those other boards can help you with that as well. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Hi Are you sure that the origin is Slovenia? In modern day Slovenia, there appears to be only one place called Suha (near Skofja Loka) and this rather negates the Hungarian connections. Moreover, this is ignoring the accent on the a (á) which would be unusual for Slovene. Similarly for Solják. As you indicate that he is listed as Austro-Hungarian, it is possible that he is Hungarian and you may have more luck on the Hungarian board. Failing this, you perhaps should centre your research on the Slovene border area to Hungary and consider that place name may have changed. With his name being Michael (Mikita), he would most likely have been Miha in Slovene or Mihael in Austrian. I don't know what it would be in Hungarian. Lastly check the reference that they are Slovenes as it is possible that they Slovaks instead. You may note that I use the term Slovene rather than Slovenian as the latter is very much a 1990 onwards term. Consequently, recheck the manifesto and census data to confirm the listing as Austrian-Slovenian.
