    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: rzeleznik Surnames: Czura Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.eeurope.slovenia.general/6618/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello, I'm researching a family member who listed "Tiniovice" Austria as his last permanent residence on the passenger manifest for the ship that brought him to the US. He also cited his race as "Ruthenian". The closest match that I've been able to find is the town of Tenovice in the Czech Republic (south east of Pilsen, between Pilsen and Prague). Without knowing a city, based upon what I've learned of the family and the Ruthenian connection, I would have guessed the city to be MUCH further east. The birth city is listed as (sp) Schodrica, also (at the time) Austria. Any leads on that could (possibly) lead me in the right direction as well. I've uploaded a image of the two cities as they were written on the form in the event that I am misinterpreting what Im seeing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Author: DaylilyFan Surnames: Belan Fabiyanic Fabianich Fabijanic Fabianic Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.eeurope.slovenia.general/6617/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I don't know Croatian geography at all well and am becoming even more confused, if that's possible! My mother was born in Hammond, Indiana, to Croatian immigrants and wrote down their hometown as "Stankovo Yaska." But now I suspect these are two separate towns or villages. I have my grandparents baptismal certificates but have difficulty deciphering the calligraphy even if I could translate it. However, I think the only place name is the Diocese of Zagreb so the documents may not be helpful. Nonetheless, I did attach them to their ancestry.com profiles (Matt Fabiyanic 1893-1937, and Mildred Belan 1895-1989). I don't know anything about their lives in Croatia, and it would be something to establish their birthplaces or hometowns, at least. But I have a side record of one family that lived in a farm of my great grandfather in Mala Kostrevnica 4, working probably as farmhands: Gabrijela Stefancic, born 15. 03. 1890 as an illegitimate daughter of Franciska Stefancic in Mala Kostrevnica 4, married in Johnston (USA) 16.11.1913 with Anton Tomazic. It may be helpful for you. For more exact information I would need either names or birth year before 1895 or house number or marriage before 1900 of your ancestors (Poglajen and/or Stefancic).
