Author: drjo84 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.eeurope.slovenia.general/180.609.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Ancestry.com reported to me that Alovsia Rot was born Jan 7, 1859 to Jakub Rot and Agnes Zgajnar in Zales, Slovenia. My mother, Josephine Pirnat was born there also and remembered the Lah name and that her mother who was married to John Pirnat, was a friend to the Ponikvar family. Alovsia (Alojze) was married to Matthew or Matthias Pirnat and had two sons, John and Louis (who became a doctor). John came to the USA, married and had one or two daughters and returned to Slovenia and had a son and two more daughters. Hope this info helps. Her father may have been Jakub. Her name was Alojze(sp?) and was from Zales and was married to Matthew Pirnat. Their address was #1 Centa(sp?) house. I'm not sure of some of the spelling. Could Alovsia be the same person as Alojze? The village is so small it must be the same person. What do you think? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Fiume (called Rijeka by Croatians) was under the rule of Austria in 1903. Interesting his WW I Draft Registration he gave his birthyear as 1874 and he stated he was from Montedero... which is Plavje aka Plavje, Plavia Montedoro What is missing from the ship manifest? Typically, but not always the manifest gives his next of kin in the old country. I notice on his Naturalization paperwork he states his Race to be Croatian I can not seem to find his ship manifest. Can you direct me to the manifest? Also he could not have been born in Plavje, Yugoslavia... as Yugoslavia did not exist at the time of his birth. The reason his 1939 paperwork list Yugoslavia as his birthplace is do to geo-politics... at the time of his birth Plavje as under the rule of Austria-Hungary Robert Jerin Croatian Heritage Museum Cleveland Ohio Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. My great grandparents were Anthony and Julian. I think my parents have a picture of Mike and my Dad would tell stories of John and how he moved to the States without his family and missed them terribly. John would bring my father silver dollars every time he would visit and take him to the movies in Gary, IN. Anthony and Julian had 4 boys, John, Peter George and Joseph. John, the oldest was my Grandpa. He married Ann Panchak and had one child, Dan, my father. My great uncle Joe also found out that Anthony came from Livov. Interestingly, my Great grandfather indicated on the 1910 census that he was Ruthenian, a religious distinction among ukranians. Author: bkilpatrick127 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.eeurope.slovenia.general/6604.1.1.2.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Very interesting. So Theresa was a sister of Ursula Korosec, who was born in 1879. Could be! My great grandmother would have been born just a little earlier, roughly 1860-65, since my grandfather, one of the younger siblings in his family, was born in 1885. But in a big family like your Koresecs, siblings sometimes spanned 20 years. Who did your Theresa Koresec marry? From the tree, I can't tell. (It looks like she's the sister of the woman who became part of your family line.) My Theresa Koresec married Jakob Kozlevcar and died prior to 1911. Any idea what part of Slovenia they were from? Thanks! Blair Kilpatrick Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
