Hello all: My grandmother, Ana (Groselj) Hitric is buried in St. Peter's cemetery in the town of Selce/Selca near Zelezniki. If there is anyone who is a member of this list who can help me determine her ancestors in that area, please contact me. I know her parents were Andreas Groselj and Marie Tusek who were from Studeno, near Dolyenya Vas. Thanks Steve von Hitritz
Hi Everyone, I made another trip to North Shore Garden Of Memories in Waukegan and photographed all the tombstones that had names I was familiar with. I have updated the list that is on my web page. Please feel free to view them, leave your comments, and joint the MSN communities. Hi Brenda, > Hi, my grandmother was born in Hrusevca, Slovenia in 1910, and brought family photos with her when she came to the US. I need help translating the wording on the back of one of the photos. This is what (I think)it says (handwritten): > > "Lahko to pornaste Lepe pordrave in poljube "Can you send nice regards and kisses (the word *pornaste* do not exist, so I assume it was wrote incorrectly - it should be *ponesete*) > Lepa hvala usemi Sestra Nevesta in Teta- > Maria" Thanks to all Sister Bride and Aunt Maria" > I know that sestra is sister, but the "S" in that word is written almost like > an "L" and looks very similar to the "L"s in Lahko, Lepe, and Lepa. (they > were written as capital L's) Yes, I know what you mean. This year I received a wall calendar with the beautiful post cards on it, which are all dated between 1900 and 1910. I was very surprised with the different handwriting, because all of the letters were mixed with the Gotics stile. Therefore the letter *L* would look almost the same as letter *S* Have a nice day, daniela from sLOVEnia

On several occasions I have read thank you's from someone for information received, and questions from others. On both accounts I wish I had seen the answers. Since the person who submitted the question has the E-mail address at the top, it is easy to hit the send now button and only they get the answer, I've done this myself. I belong to another list, and if I respond to someone's question and hit the send button, it goes directly to the list and everyone gets to read the answer. There is a lot of valuable information in this group and even if it may not pertain to what we are involved in at the moment, it may in the future. Is there any easy way to send answers to the list instead of the one person? I really enjoy this list, find it most informative, and hate to miss out on anything. Best regards to everybody, daniela from sLOVEnia

First of all, please use the name DREZNIK. Village Drejznik do not exist. It is not a town, it's a small village. It's near village Banja Loka (2 km), and 10 km south from town Kocevje. daniela from sLOVEnia

Setting the reply-to default to list is actually discouraged. I know some do it, but I also know that you are all adults (well, most of you are) and are old enough to check the "To:" settings yourself before hitting the send button. It's your responsibility -- look at the address and make sure you are replying to the person or persons you want to reply to. I am looking for information pertaining to VICTOR TROHA (b. Oct 14, 1904 in Yugoslavia, or possibly Slovenia - d. Jan 1929, in Kenosha, WI, USA). Victor moved to the US in 1920. (Victor could have also been known as VICTOR BORAK). Victor married JOSEPHINE RUFFALO in Kenosha, WI, 1929. Victor was the son of MR & MRS FRANK TROHA of Yugoslavia (or possibly Slovenia. Mrs Frank Troha's name is unknown.) Victor was one of five children (he also had 2 brothers & 2 sisters). It is not known if either his parents or siblings migrated to the US. Victor does not seem to be a common Slovenian name. He may have changed his first name when moving to the US or he may have migrated from a city in Slovenia not far from the Italian border. If anyone has any information about Victor Troha, any Troha's referenced in this email, or tips on researching Slovenia ancestry, please contact me at [email protected] Thank You! Nicole LoCicero-Troha
Daniela, thank you so very much for your response on both the village and some CURL families I can write to. I would like to know more specifics about Drejznik and wonder if: 1) you can tell me the name and date of the map you found Drejznik on - so that I can try to buy the same map. OR 2) you can tell me how far Drejznik is (or was) from the nearest large towns and whether Drejznik still exists as a town. I am trying to create a my own map of ancestral towns and so need more specific locations. Thank you again. You have been of great assistance to many people who submit questions to this Mail List. My first time posting to a Mail List. I hope I'm doing it correctly. My husband's g grandfather CURL was born in Drejznik, Austria. It appears most activities in his/his relatives' lives centered around the region of Slovenia just south of the Gottschee region (Banja Loka, Nova Sela, Rajsele). I cannot find Drejznik on any current maps of Slovenia. I DO, however, find a Dreznik Grad a considerable distance away in Croatia - but I have a feeling it's not the right place. Any ideas? Thank you very much. Penny Miller Underhill, Vermont, USA
For anyone doing research on their Slovenian ancestors make sure to read the Trunk Reports posted on the Slovenian Genealogy Society International web page. They are very educational. And be sure to become a member of the SGSI as they are doing an exceptional job trying to preserve our Slovenian Heritage. http://feefhs.org/slovenia/sidb1/trunki.html Mary http://communities.msn.com/Genealogy2000 [email protected] _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp
Dear Daniel, I keep receiving messages from you to so many people. I was wondering if you could help me find the church for Koce, Primorska, Slovenia. My Grandmother, Frances Kalister, was from there. I know her father's name was John Kalister and her mother's name was Frances Jarup from Zalog, Primorska. Her grandfather's name was John Kalister and her grandmother was Mary Jele. Any help would be appreciated.
