Servus Phillis, According to my information a "Workbook (Arbeitsbuch)" every worker within the late last 50 years of the Austrian Imperium had to carry as a certification of his employment and as a passport. I have also some workbooks of my great grand fathers and grandfathers of that time. Also the area of Triest was part of Austria ( with German as the main official language) the Bauunternehmung ( Builder Society ) most probably was there. Till today there are Slovanian minorities in this area -vice verca Italian minorities in Slovenia. Can you discribe this St.Gotard ( writing correctly? St.Gothard?)- where it should be ( Land?)? You can check this on site: http://genealogy.ijp.si/Kraji/Rihtarsic/ On the beginning of the page hit Ctrl + F and the Find application will appear; Write the word "Markt" and you will see the answer you are looking for. I use this site occasionally and I must say it is quite useful. Than you can go on site, which I found it before few days ago: http://212.103.140.243/nvatlas/ and I assure you THIS SITE IS AMAZING! 1. On first page hit on "S pogoji uporabe se strinjam" (I agree with conditions of usage) 2. On the second page click on the top of page on "Iskanje" (Search) 3. On the bottom you will find the area with name "Iskanje po zemljepisnem imenu" (Search by the geographic name). Write down the name of town, you are searching for. But, be accurate! Town Lasko for example (or any other name) must be write down properly: Lasko (with a carron on the s). 4. Click on button "Isci" (Search) 5. You can get a few (depending of name, which can be a river or village or even a hill) results, but you should click on link with the name "Naselje, mesto" (town, village) 6. The map will appear and now you have possibility to click on button on the top of page "Povecava" (increase). You can hit this button several times. I am researching my grandfather (Johan P Bezgovsek's) birthplace, 6 Dec 1892: Markt Tuffer, Austria. I have made contact with a very friendly Slovenian who informs me that Markt Tuffer, Austria is present day Lasko, Slovenia. He's been very friendly and helpful but so far I haven't been able to get any documentary evidence that Markt Tuffer is actually Lasko. Can anyone advise me of where I might find written records correlating Mart Tuffer and Lasko as the same location. I would like to see a map or Gazetteer or any other record that connects them. Hi folks This is my first post here and my first question is how do you handle the diacriticals? My Grandparents were named Miklic (with a carron on the c) and Ercul (with a carron on the c). It wasn't too long before they became Miklich and Erchul. How should I write their names? Two, I have some turn of the century pictures of my Erchul - Miklich relatives on line, mostly Erchul. Most of the people came from Zagorica in Dobrepolje to the Iron Range in NE Minnesota, then to the Trail Creek Area in Montana, S of what is now I-90 between Bozeman and Livingston. I have a few unknown pictures, two weddings and one portrait, all related to the Erchuls. I also have some documents up there. If anyone recognizes anyone in the pictures I'd love to hear about it.
