    3. connie, as far as i remember you have to make an appointment (just call them), because there are anly a few tables, copies were allowed to make but not anymore, i think you can bring a laptop, readability depends on the priests who wrote the books - from some parishes there are the originals (all) and from others just the copies (app. 1800 -) . when i went there it didn't cost anything to get access. regards, georg [email protected] wrote: > ATTACHMENT part 1 message/rfc822 SLOVENIA-D Digest Volume 02 : Issue 54 Today's Topics: #1 Archive in Maribor [[email protected] (Connie)] Administrivia: To unsubscribe from SLOVENIA-D, send a message to [email protected] that contains in the body of the message the command unsubscribe and no other text. 3. I have had a tremendous response to the plight of St. Mary's. I am including a copy of this e-mail to the Waukegan Historical Society, Slovenian Women's Union and Slovenian Genealogy Society International, and Lake County Illinois Genealogy Society representatives who I correspond with. My intent today is to send an e-mail to the Archdiocese of Chicago and the Cemetery Commission about this plight. I compared photos I took last summer to photos I took the other day and there is a lot more damage from last year to this. This includes the hole in the fence. The first who should be responsible for the care of the cemetery should be these groups. I will keep you posted as to any response or feedback I get from them and then we can proceed from there. When I reported my grandfather's brother's buried stones to the office at Northshore Garden Of Memories, they repaired them at no charge. A lot of these people were desecrated once with their move from Olivet to St. Mary's and now it is happening again. The more I think about it the more upset I get. It was bad enough not being able to find the graves of my mom's brother and gr-gr-grandmother last summer, but now as I walked the cemetery more stones have been broken. 1. St. Mary's on Genesee
    2. mary urban
    3. I have made my 3rd trip to St. Mary's Cemetery on Genesee in Waukegan Illinois. This historic cemetery is located on Sheridan Road. If you are at all familiar when you enter the main gate, on the left side of the drive, is the re-burial location of those moved from Olivet Cemetery. Last summer I made two trips there and found some vandalized monuments, many worn, covered by sod, mud and/or none at all. Yesterday I took another trip there and found the fence on that side has a big hole in it, more monuments have been vandalized since last year, and more stones either grown over by sod or covered with mud. Also many of the stone faces are wearing away. I am aware that the families of those interred here are either no longer alive or do not live in the area. My question is, how much more can we let this part of the cemetery deteriorate, our ancestors forgotten and desecrated, and a future where these same plots will be "resold" because the markers are gone and more "income" can be made. For me it was a very upsetting experience and what can be done to preserve this part of our history? I will be posting some photos that show just a minor part of the destruction there on my web page http://communities.msn.com/genealogy2000 Mary ===== MY WEB PAGES: http://genealogy2002.tripod.com http://communities.msn.com/genealogy2000 __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? 3. It's $20 an hour. I authorized 5 hours and postage was $3, so my bill was $103.00. I thought this was a little steep when I first heard about it, but after trying to do it on my own, I think it's well worth while. They trust people and bill you when you receive the finished work. After a couple hours of frustration, I decided to commission the archive to do my research--a wise move. They're slow but the do good work. A couple of months after I got home, an envelope showed up with just what I needed. Unfortunately, the church records for my grandparent's lineage went back to only 1846.
