I am re-sending this as the copy that came to me was garbled. Kathy Hello Fellow Listers, I am searching for records of my: - Paternal Grandparents: Andrew Tomko and Mary Berta from Lemesany, Saris County, Slovakia. (Lemes in Hungarian.) He immigrated in 1903 when my grandmother was 4 mos. pregnant with my father & worked for money to bring his family over. She immigrated in May of 1906 on the Carpathia with children: Veronica (7), Mary (5), and Andrew (3) [my dad born 1903]. Also, brought 15 year old neighbor girl, Mary Dancak, with her. Settled 1906 in Duquesne, PA, moved in 1909 to Lemont Furnace, Fayette County, PA. Cannot find records at Ellis Island (where the Carpathia docked). Years ago my father tried to find records & was told the Carpathia ship's logs were destroyed in a fire. He always knew he was listed as a "babe in arms" for the passage. - Maternal Grandparents: John Vasko & Mary Soltis probably from Lemesany too or a nearby village. They settled in Duquesne, PA. Some of their children probably died before they immigrated (Gabriel). Their children: Andrew, Jake, Steve, May, and Anna [my mother born 1907] & two Joseph's (one died at 2 & the other at 1 month). All four grandparents were long dead when I was born. I would like to find records of their passage to this country; ages at the time, etc. Also, I have no contact with anyone in Slovakia & would like to find cousins someday. Thank you, Kathleen Tomko kamtomko@netzero.net Searching -- Tomko; Berta; Vasko (Wasko, Washko); Soltis (Soltys, Sholtez)
