    3. Hi Jim, By the way, a kind word about death certificates. The information contained therein is notoriously known to be inaccurate, provided by family informants. Oft times, the immigrant himself did not know his true birthdate or year for two reasons. First, birthdates were not important in that day and age. Your saints name day was exceedingly important. Secondly, illiteracy being as it was, even the mother did not keep track of birthdates.
