Mary, Kosice is is the second largest city in Slovakia. Zemplin is the old Hungarian (pre-1918) Zemplin name. Dapalovce is a small village about 15 km north from Vranov nad Toplou. VnT is about 20 km northeast of Kosice. Marriage certs usually show the place of birth. Zapalovce looks like a misspelling, as I can find no other village in Slovakia close to this. What was the date of marriage and what date was the certificate issued and where? Slovakia? The dates lead us to what the name for the village was at different periods of time. The Magyar (Hungarian) names for Dapalovce were Gyapaloc or Gyapar. Did you see these names anywhere in your documents? Why are you looking in Kosice? Did he live there once upon a time? The LDS has no records for Dapalovce But does have: Greek Catholic parish registers of baptisms, marriages, and deaths for Rafajovce (Stropkov), Slovakia; formerly Rafajócz, Zemplén, Hungary Which is an adjacent town to Dapalovce . It was quite common then as well as now, for a single priest to minister to a couple of villages, but keep only one set of books. I'd consider pulling the Rafajovce once you are certain of Dapalovce. Bill I am searching for my father-in-law in LDS film for Kosice . I am not sure if I am looking at the correct place. There are two names written on his marriage certificate in the U.S. One is Zapalovce and the other looks like Zemplin. Are either of these in Kosice, and also is Zapalovce and Dapalovce the same name - different handwriting? I have seen Dapalovce on a map. Any help will be appreciated.
