I am trying to research a priest who is said to be from the same town as the family I am researching. According to his naturalization, he arrived on the Kaiser Wilhelm des Grosse on 14 Dec 1904 and the ship did come on that day. I have not been able to find him in the Ellis Island index (searching the ship by name for 1904-5 for everyone whose last name began with T) and I am in the process to looking through the entire manifest. I am wondering if perhaps a priest would not have to travel in steerage and would not go through Ellis Island. (His naturalization says he was born in Eperjes but I think the family was from a smaller town so I would like to know what is on the ship's manifest.) Donna

Chicago 1923 Their daughter, Anna (1897-1950) married Samuel Zavodny (or Zavodni) (1886 or 1887-1958) This Samuel's parents were Steven ZAVODNY (never came to U.S.) and Catherine SLAHOR (Katarina SLAHOROVA) As far as I know, all families were from the Brezova/L'Ahne/Bratislava/Nitra area, and were Lutheran. Anyone know if these names might be related? I ask because my father once told me that our last name, Turk, was probably shortened from its original Hungary name. I don't yet even know where in Hungary my Turk name is from...hence, why I'm trying to find out. I printed the Czech and Hungarian word lists from Familysearch.org and I am finally starting to make some sense out of coordinating the 1910 maps with my modern one. I kept getting confused between Nagy Lipnik and Velky Lipnik but now I know one is Hungarian and the other Czech for "big" or "large." I figure a Hungarian falu (village) becomes ovce in Slavik (just from looking at towns on the two maps) as obec is the Czech word. Donna
