    3. An update to my earlier posting. This afternoon I received a packet of information on my SLOAN family from a volunteer of the Hopkins County Genealogical Society (TX). Amid this information is a write-up on this family from the "Pioneers of Hopkins County, Texas - Volume II", published by Henington Publishing Company, Wolfe City, Texas 75496, compiled by Sylvia M. Kibart and Rita M. Adams, Co-Editors for the Hopkins County Genealogical Society. Copyright 1989. According to this county history, John B. SLOAN was born in Monroe County, Tennessee on February 12, 1835. He was the son of Alexander SLOAN and Nancy Mary MORRISON. Alexander SLOAN was a Justice of the Peace in Monroe County. John B. SLOAN married Serenia J. RICHARDSON in Tennessee. According to this history, their three oldest children, George, Bernice (Nettie), and Melissa, were born in Tennessee. John B. SLOAN joined the Hamilton's Confederate Tennessee Cavalry (Jackson County) in 1862 and was captured in 1863, taken to Kentucky and then top Illinois as a prisoner of war. His family joined him in Illinois where their next three children were born. At some point the returned to Tennessee, found their home destroyed by carpetbaggers and moved on to Texas in 1873 by covered wagon. I now have most of the dates of birth of their children and the names of their spouses. This is very exciting for me, three years of searching and all this information pouring in in less than a week. Amazing! My heartfelt thanks to the USGenWeb, TXGenWeb, Hopkins County Coordinator, and the wonderful volunteers of the Hopkins County Genealogical Society. If you connect to this SLOAN family, please contact me. FRANK - DO YOU SEE THIS??????? I can't believe it. Lila
