I am new to this listing and just found this family after many years of looking in the wrong places with the wrong name. A lot of Sloan names in this writing so continue reading through the first part. Amanda (Sloan) Pinion married William Costner in 1874 in Cartersville, GA. I looked for years in Pinion families not knowing she was first a Sloan until I found a marriage record for Amanda Sloan marrying Fletcher Pinion in 1870 in Gordon County, GA. She is also there for the 1870 Census with the Pinions living next door to a Washington Sloan, her brother. What I know now and would like to find others looking for this family. Archibald Sloan in 1778 received one of the first land deeds in the new County of Blount, TN. He had a son named Robert, born May28, 1776 in either NC or VA (not researched). In 1801 Robert married Margaret Cook, the daughter of James Cook and Ann Ford. I have not look for either of these families. Robert and Margaret Sloan moved to Murray County, Ga and by 1840 Robert had a plantation on both sides of the Conasauga River. Their children are: 1. James Sloan - born 1/27/1803; lived in Polk Co, TN Ruth - 4/16/1804 (nothing is known) 2. Archibald - 10/1/1806 3. John - 3/22/1808 d.1877 Alexander - 1/10/1810 - d. 1828 Sarah - 5/28/1811 - d. 1837 Ann - 5/31/1813 d. 1814 Jane - 4/1/1815 d. 1887 4. William - 7/11/1817 d. 1852 5. Ellis - 2/28/1819 d. 1896 Margaret Malinda 12/19/1820 Robert Washington 10/6/1822 - d. 1823 Jackson Boyd 12/19/1824 Elizabeth - 5/8/1827 At the father Robert's death in 1845. the farm was divided between William, Ellis, and Jackson. 1. James'' children are: Felix Alexander, robert F., Dr. Fielding Pope, Mary E., James Brown, William Eskine, Dr. Flavel Baxter, Thomas Wisner, Archibald Nevins. I have a little more on this family. 2. Archibald married Jane Ann Baker and Arreva Permelia Carpenter - children are: Harriet, James A., Samuel B., Archibald A., Mary M, Elizabethk America, Lenora, Robert, Sarah. I have a little more on this family. 3. John's married Julia A. children are: Sarah Jane, Margaret, 4. William married Susan Tate in Murry Co, GA Children are: WAshington A., Martha G., Jackson Boyd, malinda, Robert Pope, Amanda (the relative I searched for for years) 5. Ellis married Permelia Green Freeman children are: Mary Eliz., Robert B., Manerva Ann, Emily Jane, Julius C., nancy R. M. , William Emerson, Elbert Owen, Roselah E., Cordelia, Charles Lee, Elis S. Julie E. have a little more about this family. They go to Ark. and TX There was also something about a William Nelson Sloan as the great great nephew of Robert Sloan born in TN, son of George W. Sloan and Mary C. Reed. His children are Nora Emma, George Alvin, thoms tloyd, Henry Melvin, Linda Laura, Eula Lee, James Glenn (some names in this family may be left out.)
