My g.g.g. grandfather was James SLOAN. He married Elizabeth CONNELL in Dalry, Ayreshire in 1823. They had a son William SLOAN born in 1824, also in Dalry. On William's marriage certificate (Vic. 1866) it states that his father James was a "clothier", and I assume in Dalry. I have seen recently (on the net) that there was a James SLOAN who had a drapery shop in Glascow, but have not been able to retrace my steps to find where I saw this info. The 1851 census shows that all three people had left Dalry. William came to Australia in 1853. Could someone confirm that James had a business in Dalry? Better still, does anyone know these SLOANS. I would be grateful to hear from anyone, no matter how insignificant the info may seem. Thanks.
