    3. Hi Folks, I went to eBAY looking for a pic of Sloan's Liniment and found something else interesting. An etching for sale from James Blanding Sloan, there is a picture at: http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=114815824 The description says: "Calif. Palace Of The Legion Of Honor - San Francisco" etching, circa 1930's by James Blanding Sloan (1886-1975). The etching shows the front of the Palace, with a woman working towards it. There is also two people to the far right, one on a bicycle. According to Hughes "Artists In California", Sloan was born in Texas, "studied at the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts. While there he shared a studio with B.J.O. Nordfelt and became interested in color etching through his friendship with George Senseney." He then moved to New York, where he did set designs. "He arrived in San Francisco in the mid-1920's and opted to remain. Establishing a studio on Polk Street..". In the early 1930's he moved to Hollywood where he designed stage sets and spent the rest of his life. He was a life log member of the Chicago Society of Etchers. James Blanding Sloan is listed in Hughes, Davenport's, Lawrence's, Feilding and Mallett. I'd never heard of him before, Does anyone know for sure who James Blanding Sloan is?? I think I may have found him in my data base. I have Bland J. Sloan b. July 1893 in Madison Co. Tx. IAW the 1900 census. The son of Edward M. & Maude L. Sloan. Edward, Jr. was b. Mar 1866 in Marshall Co. MS. the son of Edward M. Sloan, Sr. and Margaret N. Wisemen. Edward Sr. is the son of John Sloan and Jane Phillips of Fairfield Co. SC. John can be found on my Rev. Patriots webpage. (I don't think the family is in my on-line data base.) OK Richard, another one for your famous Sloans.
