First, thanks to Gordon for identifing another mystery Sloan rebel. Speaking of John Sloan & Rachel Alderman: I know there are several descendants subscribing to the Sloan-Slone list, and I don't recall ever seeing a query about John's parents for a long time. I have him in database as the son of John Sloan & Nancy Wells. But, I'm not totally sure that's correct. An LDS: IGI entry stated that he was the son of a John Sloan of Duplin Co. NC. There are several John Sloans in Duplin Co. at the same time. So maybe the real question is who was John Sloan's mother? I think it was ME that pegged him as John Jr. to John & Nancy Wells Sloan. Sloan Mason furnished a copy of this John's (Sr.?) will and he mentions a dau Mary Sloan Bryant and son William Sloan. But, NO son John! Does anyone have proof or others clues for the parents of John Sloan, Jr.?? Also special thanks to Shirley T. Shiver.
