Hi all, I'm new to the list too and have been very interested in the discussion of David and William Sloan. I descend from David's daughter Elizabeth who married Jesse Stribling. I found a copy of "Deeds of Franklin County Georgia 1784-1826" by Martha Walters Acker, 1976. There were several entries for William and David Sloan, both of whom were referred to as "of Pendleton Dist. SC". There was one other Sloan in the index and being a novice, I dismissed it. After seeing the post about the children of William Sloan, the entry becomes more interesting. on p 53: DEED dated GA. 2Nov 1793, rec. 23 Aug. 1794, from JOSEPH STEPHENS of Washington Co. Ga. to MICAJAH WILLIAMSON, Sr. of Wilkes Co. GA. In cons. of 500 pds., conveys 1000 ac. in Franklin Co., surveyed in name of ..., granted to JOSEPH STEPHENS by Gov. Edward Telfair 25 Oct 1793, and recorded in Secretary's Office in Book A.A.A.A., folio 457. Wit: POWELL STAMPER, JOHN SLOAN, WILLIAM GEORGE. Sworn to by STAMPER before J. COSBY, J.P. 7 July 1794. I bet the John Sloan who witnessed the deed was the son of William. Does anyone recognize any of the other surnames, or know how old a person had to be to witness a deed? Laurie McKenna Franklin E.
