"John B. Lisle" <jbl@tqsi.com> Wrote: | | I have recently discovered that Fergus Sloan is a direct ancestor and from | a few messages that I have seen on this list, it seems that his family is | well known. Before I go wandering around in dark corners, could someone | mail me privately information and/or sources to information on this family. | I gather his father's name was George and he had a son Fergus. Were there | any known siblings or cousins that may have been in NC? Thanks, John. John and the rest of the Fergus descendants, I've never seen any published papers on Fergus. And looking at my notes, I don't seem to have any "facts" along with the sources on him. I do have this secondary info: 1747: Forester/Stalham says he was in Lancaster Pa. c1755: Fergus appears on 4th Creek in central Rowan Co. NC. I suspect the family data that I have came from DAR records. So if anyone has any factoids (along with the sources) I would love to hear about them myself. There seems to be a lot more info available on his children. Concerning George: I think it was an IGI entry that said "a" George was the father of Fergus AND the William Sloan that m. Ann Means. I would really love to see the evidence on this. These are the only facts that I've come across on an old George in either area: {from "Rowan Co. Deeds abstracts 1753-55" by Linn, 1983, pg10 & 108.} 13 Jan 1758: George Sloan, "late of Pa." buys 184 acres on NE side of Yadkin River for 20lbs from Anthony Fundinburg. Land was originally granted to Edward Hugh. Sells same 3 Sep 1763. ***** I Think this George Sloan lived near Henry Sloan on East side of Yadkin River. No proof of relationship has been established. Could be father, brother or nothing. Nothing else on this George. ====================================== {from Lancaster Co. Pa. deed/grant records furnished by R. Philip sloan, Jun 1998.} 8 Jun 1734: George Sloan of the county of Lancaster grant to take up two hundred acres on Quitapeheela (?) Creek in Lebanon Twp in the said county of Lancaster for 15 lbs. 10 Shillings. ***** Lebanon Twp later became Lebanon Co. What became of this George? Is he the George that some say is the father of Fergus Sloan? Is there any evidence in Pa. that this George went to NC. ? Maybe he is the unknown Sloan I refer to as "Old Lebanon" Sloan that was supposed to be from Antrim Co. Ireland and had two sons. The history of Montgomery Co. OH. say that he imigrated about 1718 & settled in Lebanon Co. Pa. Only 2 sons known, one went to the Great West & never heard of again. The other was named Alexander Sloan. Later, Frank Mitchell
