Received an honorable discharge June 26, 1865. A number of the 18th MI were captured by the Confederates in Alabama, and after the War were being sent home on the steamship Sultana when it exploded and sank just north of Memphis in April 1865. I've no record that Cousin Charles was part of that group. I have a book on order that tells about the Sultana tragedy which also includes a passenger list. When I get it I'll see if any Sloan's are on that list. That tragedy by the way, was of the magnitude of the Titanic but after four years of bloody war and President Linclon's assasination, the Sultana has remaind mostly a footnote in Civil War history.
