Her grandfather Merle SLOAN was born 19 Jan 1902 and died Oct 1974 in the Sharon area of Mercer Co., PA. He was born a TATE (TAIT) and adopted by a SLOAN family at about age 7. Levi L. SLOAN b abt 1846 in France according to Adams Co., IL census. According to my grandmother's family bible that I just found that a cousin has it has him as being born in IL. Levi L SLOAN married Eliza V. MARSH in Adams Co., IL on 20the December 1872. There were 4 children born. Virgil b 1875 Charles Lewis b 1877 Ida b 1886 and Frank Lewis b 1888. Children were born in Adams Co., IL and Lewis Co., MO. On the back of Levi and Eliza marriage license it has reconciled 1885. Can not find any information on Levi at all before of after these dates. Betty I don't know if anyone is still looking but there is a Dykes Cemetery along side highway 77 in the Greenhead community of Washington County, Fl, a few miles south of Chipley.

Just received a death certificate in the mail for my grand-uncle Sherman Sloan. Born May 30, 1896 - died Dec. 21 1969. He was widowed at the time of death and living in Elgin, IL. His sons name was listed on the death cert. as John (middle initial D ?) Sloan. The son is a new name for my list. It's hard to say if John Sloan would still be alive today. I have only been able to uncover pieces of my family through birth and death certificates. It's been a slow process. Does anyone know a good birth index for IL ?
