I take it, You are probably not taking about my surname info page: http://www.panama.phoenix.net/~fmitchel/coa.html Another good site some people may not be aware of, is the Sloan Family Genealogy Forum: http://www.genforum.com/sloan/ It's another good place to post your Sloan Queries. I am also interested in the line of James and Jean Sloan. My husband descends from James Sloan who was married to Frances Brown (daughter of Benjamin Brown and Nancy Sloan). Thier daughter Elizabeth was married to Aaron Deweese. I have a copy of the will (transcription below) of James Sloan Sr., but there is no mention of son James. What sources do you have that shows James as his son (please tell me you have a bible record)? Our James did have a sister Jane who was married to David Davis. Jane was not mentioned in the will either. Would love to see what information that would prove this family. Sue Will of James Sloan, July 13, 1792 In the name of God Amen. I James Sloan of Meckenburg County & State of North Carolina being sick and weak in body but of perfect mind and memory, thanks be to God for it but calling to mind that it is appointed for all men once to die do make this my last will and testament as follows. Imprimus First of all I order all my just debts to be paid. 2ndly. I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Jean her choice of one of all my horse creatures and her saddle and two __ and all of my household furniture. 3rdly. I give and bequeath unto my son Joseph the plantation that I now live on to him and his heirs at or after the marriage or death of my wife. 4thly. I give and bequeath unto my daughters Mary and Rachel each of them a __. 5thly. The remainder of my property to be valued by three free holders chosen by my executor and after the __ property has been valued then my executors to give the said property to each of my children __ the amount of two pounds except my son Joseph that remains of the valuation I leave at the disposal of my beloved wife. Lastly. I do ordain and appoint my beloved wife Jean and my son John Sloan to be the lone executors of this my last will and testament and to see that it be performed according to the true intent and meaning thereof and I do hereby revoke & disannul all other former wills and testaments heretofore by me made. I do publish this & no other to be my Last Will and Testament. This thirtieth day of July 1792. Signed sealed and acknowledged by /mark/ James Sloan In presence of Wm. Hi Folks, I received a notice that Family Tree Maker had on-line (free for a limited time) the Marriage Index of Mass. for 1633-1850. The URL is: http://www.familytreemaker.com/ifftop.html FTM has a great search engine! You might want to give it a try for all of your surnames. Anyway, I pull down all the Sloan/Sloane/Slone marriages of Mass. it wasn't that many. I'm listing them below. Sorry, they didn't come in any particular order, I've combined some duplicate entries, there may be more. I have very little info on the Sloans of Mass. in my database. So if you find a hit, drop me a note. Frank Mitchell ******************* The generic source title is: Family Tree Maker CD #231, Mass. Does anyone know if this James connects with the family of | > John SLOAN of the Battle of Ramseur's Mill, Revolutionary War? Doris, & others, Welcome back Doris, I was wondering why you've been so quite. NO, This James Sloan is not from your Iredell/Rowan Co. NC. "Archibald Sloan" line. He is from the Fergus Sloan line of the same area. I've actually seen the grave of this James Sloan in a Sloan Cemetery near my hometown in Ark. He was m. 3 times, (McKinney was #2) however only his third appears to be in the cemetery. The site is still here: http://www.panama.phoenix.net/~fmitchel/welcome.html However, I've run out of free space and I put a couple of pages with Geocities. Sorry for the annoying little extra windows. Frank Mitchell

Hi Nancy, I don't know anything about Delilah, I am stuck myself on Deborah Sloan b-abt 1823 from the same area and time. She married Austin Kirby before 1839. They had Amanda, Mariah, Armanella, General H., Clinton, Alice, and Dewit. They moved to Gallatin County, IL and apparently died in that area. I was wondering if you might have come across any of them in your studies. They were in Smith County in 1840, Macon county in 1850. Armanella was born in Jackson County in 1845. It sounds to me like Delilah and Deborah are related. like sisters maybe. To all researchers and descencants of John SLOAN and Rachel ALDERMAN... Since I posted my tentative claim for D. SLOAN in the Confederate Army, I have had a few of you send private e-mail asking about Stanley Sloan of Tucson. He published a Sloan book in 1988 which covered many of the John & Rachel Sloan family. Stan is still living in Tucson ... in an assisted living home. His memory is just about gone and does not carry on a conversation well any more. So he will not be doing an update on his book.... I will. A few years ago he and I talked about the next book. As a result, I have his notes etc and will follow up with the next publication... hopefully in the first half of 1999. I did most of my Sloan research from 6 to 13 years ago and accumulated "most" of what I need, but this book might as well be complete and correct. Right???? I could use a lot of help in getting corrections and filling in omissions. The list and number of us descended from John and Rachel is extremely large. I might not have your info. Please, at any time, send what you will, to me so it can be included in "our" book. My address is Gordon M. Sloan; R.Rt. 1, Box790; 1845 N. Taylor Rd.; Willcox, AZ 85643; 520-384-3207. e-mail gsloan@ssvec.org I have been working on other family lines for years... now it is time for me to get serious on our SLOANs. I have tried and have been generally successful at assembling a fairly complete record of decendants in other family lines. Now it is time for our Sloan descendants and ancestors. Is there any one else preparing to publish this Sloan line??? Please let me know before we have toooooo much duplication and wasted time. Hope to hear from many of you for discussion of facts and details to keep me on the "straight and narrow" for our family. To Franklin Mitchell, thanks for hosting/owning this list... very productive and a great service to all of us. I have no interest in making money on this or my other family histories. It is my opportunity to provide a service to my extended family. Any charges for books will be to break even for printing cost only. Thanks to all... for your encouragement and help. Your Arizona cousin, Gordon Sloan.

First, thanks to Gordon for identifing another mystery Sloan rebel. Speaking of John Sloan & Rachel Alderman: I know there are several descendants subscribing to the Sloan-Slone list, and I don't recall ever seeing a query about John's parents for a long time. I have him in database as the son of John Sloan & Nancy Wells. But, I'm not totally sure that's correct. An LDS: IGI entry stated that he was the son of a John Sloan of Duplin Co. NC. There are several John Sloans in Duplin Co. at the same time. So maybe the real question is who was John Sloan's mother? I think it was ME that pegged him as John Jr. to John & Nancy Wells Sloan. Sloan Mason furnished a copy of this John's (Sr.?) will and he mentions a dau Mary Sloan Bryant and son William Sloan. But, NO son John! Does anyone have proof or others clues for the parents of John Sloan, Jr.?? Also special thanks to Shirley T. Shiver. Shirley recently contributed a gedcom with over 1,300 descendants of John & Rachel. Unfortunately, I still haven't processed and merged Shirley's gedcom yet.
