The ones that I hear most often are that it stands for "Son of Sis" where "Sis" is a nickname for "Cecil" which means "blind". This would make it like other "son" names. Another theory is that the name comes from the town of Soissons in France. And, like other names, it possibly could have more than one origin. We just don't know for sure at this point.
