It may possibly shed some light on what motivated Thomas Lawton(1) to emigrate. I am not able to send a copy of the original Will, but this hits all the high spots of it. Thomas Lawton's Will dated: 1674, June 5 proved: 1681, Sept. 27 (proves Lawton-Sisson connection) In his Will, Thomas Lawton named his following children: 1. Daniel Lawton 2. Isaac Lawton 3. Elizabeth Lawton (Sherman) 4. Anne Lawton (Slocum) 5. Sarah Lawton (Sisson) He also referred, very unfavorably to his 2nd wife, Grace Parsons Bailey Lawton. Stating that "she had not behaved toward him as a wife should a husband." To Daniel: Long Swamp Farm - Hunting Swamp Farm To Isaac: Farm lying & being at Puncatege & lands on Martha's Vineyard To Elizabeth: All that land of mine that is now occupied by Peleg Sherman (her husband) On quarter share of land at Ponoganset, in the Township of Dartmouth All that land of mine in the tenure & occupation of Peleg Sherman, lying in Portsmouth & adjoing that land that Peleg had received from Phillip Sherman. All that pasture of mine in Portsmouth, known by the name of Fifty Acres. My dwelling house, with all the land belonging to the same. To Anne: The sum of five shillings, with what I have already given her from me or my estate. To Sarah: Fifty pounds of lawful money of New England To my daughters Elizabeth Sherman & Sarah Sisson, all the remainder of my real and personal estate whatsoever it is, or wheresoever it may be found, to be divided equally between them. Apparently Elizabeth inherited the home place. Elizabeth had married well when she md into the Sherman family. Her father-in-law Phillip Sherman was assistant to the governor, and held other high offices, and was one of the first settlers in Portsmouth. Note: Tthomas appointed his "loving friend William Wodell" & "his loving son-in-law George Sisson," as overseers of his Will. This statement proves the Lawton - Sisson connection. ******************************************** Note: For anyone on the List who wishes to have a copy of the original Will, they can write to the Portsmouth City Clerk's Office at Portsmouth. I just received a copy from there, as I had misplaced my original copy, & only had my transcribed version Mary Jo Sisson March ------------------------------ Message: 4 Date: Fri, 28 Dec 2007 12:28:14 -0600 From: "Mary Jo Sisson March" <benoni@centurytel.net> Subject: [SISSON] generation error To: "genealogy" <sisson-l@rootsweb.com> Message-ID: <001a01c8497f$699250d0$2f01a8c0@FSYLY0JTWN> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="Windows-1252" After sending the will summary I noticed I had erroneously put a (3) generation beside Thomas Lawton's(1) name. I have been working on several generations of his family, & obiously got my generations mixed up. Sorry.
