    3. Kay, If you think there may be Cherokee ancestry in your Sisson lineage, it is not very likely. The Guion Miller Roll of 1909 lists all of the proved and unapproved applications for Cherokee ancestry. There is a group of Sisons from Rex, OK and Kansas, OK and headed by Harry Sison (age 47 at the time) who were approved (Miller #'s 24503-24512; Mlller Application #'s 2415 & 28611). There were a total of 13 Sissons found not eligible (which could simply mean they could not provide sufficient documentary evidence of Cherokee ancestry). They each had a separate Miller Application number. The main index to the Guion Miller Roll is a book entitled the "Guion Miller Roll 'Plus'," authored by Bob Blankenship and published by Cherokee Roots Publication. The book lists the names and Roll number data of all applicants for federal funds authorized by Congress around 1907. The beauty of the applications is that the person had to list their parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, grandparents all the way back to their Cherokee ancestor. The Blankenship book should be at most large genealogy libraries, and you can order copies of the applications through LDS Family History Centers. However, make sure you are ordering the correct number, which I believe is the Miller application number. If you think your Native American ancestry comes from a strictly maternal lineage (which should be the case for a Sisson descendant), I believe there is a DNA test for that. You can check with Ancestry.com and/or Family Tree DNA for the specifics. I hope this is helpful. Howard K. Watkins Fresno, CA Husband of Christine K.
