Are there any coincidences in this world? Our recent expe- riences with the inspired painting of Mary Jane Dow and the story of her son's adoption make us wonder. As we visited in Mary Jane's home, we also discovered that her husband's fam- ily tree includes Kate McWillie Powers...the beautiful young bride of Dr. R. V. Powers, the founding father of the Mississippi Children's Home Society. Our original receiving home was funded by Dr. Powers and named in loving mem- ory of his deceased wife. And now, all these years later, anoth- er connection is made with the Mississippi Children's Home Society through a gifted artist and her son. As our lives unfold we are somehow brought together through caring for others. We may never know how far reaching our actions and our gifts will be, but we can be sure that they will be touched and used in ways beyond our imagination. Though we cannot know the children whose lives will be changed for- ever through our agency, we do marvel that we are a part of this ongoing work. Without a doubt, we are a part of a larger plan...a plan that makes provision for those who serve and those who are served. Throughout our lifetimes we each give and receive and leave our own legacies. Thank you to those who so unselfishly give to help us meet the needs of Mississippi's children and families. You make a difference every day to an abused child, an overwhelmed parent, a troubled teen...Thank you! Scherry Gilliland Chris Cherney The purpose of Mississippi Children's Home Society News, the newsletter of the Mississippi Children's Home Society, is to inform supporters of the agency's current activities and needs, to inspire them to deepen their commitments to MCHS and to encourage them to join with other volunteers and donors to help achieve future goals for the children and families served by the agency.
